Answers to the questions parents ask us most. If yours isn't here, email support@thepiggy.com.au and a real person will reply within 2 business days.
My sign-in code hasn't arrived
We email a six digit code from hello@mail.thepiggy.com.au, with a subject like "123456 is your code for The Piggy". It works once, for 10 minutes.
- Give it a minute, then look in your Spam or Junk folder (and Promotions, in Gmail). If it's there, mark it as not spam so the next one comes straight through.
- Check the email address you typed. If it's wrong, tap Use a different email.
- Tap Send a new code. You can ask for a new one after a minute, and each new code replaces the one before.
- The email also has a link. Open it on the device you're signing in on, then tap "Yes, sign in The Piggy".
Putting The Piggy on your Home Screen
The Piggy is a web app, so there's nothing to download from the App Store and it's always the latest version. On an iPhone or iPad, open app.thepiggy.com.au in Safari, then:
- Tap the button beside the address bar (three dots, or three lines on newer iOS), then Share. If you can see the Share button (a square with an arrow), tap that instead.
- Tap Add to Home Screen. Scroll down, or tap More, to find it.
- Check Open as Web App is on, then tap Add.
Then open The Piggy from its new icon and sign in.
In another browser, tap its Share button, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, tap the three dots in Chrome, then Add to Home screen or Install app.
Setting up a kid's device
Kids never sign in. You set up each child's own device from your phone:
- On your phone: Admin, then Devices, then Add a device for your child. The Piggy shows a code.
- On your child's device, open the Camera, point it at the code and tap the address that pops up. (Or open app.thepiggy.com.au on it, tap "Setting up a kid's device? Use a pairing code" and type the code.)
- Tap Share (on an iPhone it may be under the three dots or three lines beside the address), then Add to Home Screen. Check Open as Web App is on, then tap Add.
- Open The Piggy from the Home Screen and tap "Yes, this is Ruby's device" (with your child's name).
On an Android phone or tablet, the address opens in the browser (usually Chrome): tap "Yes, this is Ruby's device" there, then put The Piggy on the Home screen. On Android, tap the three dots in Chrome, then Add to Home screen or Install app.
The code works once, for 15 minutes. If it runs out, tap Make a new code. A child's own device can be an iPad, iPhone or Android phone or tablet. Kids don't need their own device, though: on a shared family iPad each child taps their name, and switching to someone else needs the parent PIN.
Moving to a new phone or iPad
- Parents and carers: put The Piggy on the new phone's Home Screen and sign in with the same email. Your family's records come across by themselves. Then sign out the old phone, from Admin, then Devices, on either phone.
- Kids: set up the new device as above. Before you unlink the old one (Admin, then Devices, then Unlink), open The Piggy on it once with the internet on, so its last ticks reach you.
Adding another parent or carer
Admin, then Family, then Invite a parent. They get an email and sign in with their own email address on their own phone, wherever they live. The invite is open for 7 days, and a family can have up to 4 parents or carers, all for one price.
Cancelling your plan
The parent who set up the family can cancel any time: Admin, then Plan. There's no phone call, no form and no lock-in contract. Your plan keeps running to the end of the time you've paid for, then stops, and nothing more is charged. If you haven't chosen a plan yet, there's nothing to cancel: we don't take a card for the free month. If your plan stops, nothing is deleted: your family becomes read only until you choose a plan again (see the terms).
Refunds
We don't give refunds if you change your mind, but your plan always runs to the end of the time you've paid for. If you've paid for a yearly plan and ask within 14 days of the payment being taken, we'll refund it in full as a goodwill promise. Email support@thepiggy.com.au from the address you signed up with. Stripe returns the money to the card you paid with, and it usually shows within 5 to 10 business days. Your consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law always apply (see the terms).
Deleting your family or your account
- Your family: the parent who set it up can remove it with Admin, then Family, then Remove this family. Save a backup file first if you'd like a copy. We keep the family for 7 days in case you change your mind, then delete it.
- Your account: Admin, then Account, then Delete my account. You'll confirm and type a fresh code. For 7 days you can stop it by emailing us, then it's deleted and we email you to say so.
- Backup copies roll off by themselves. The privacy policy has the details.
Privacy questions and requests
You can save a copy of your family's data any time: a backup file (Admin, then Back up and restore) or a readable copy (Admin, then Account, then Download a readable copy). To ask what we keep, to fix something, or for anything else about privacy, email support@thepiggy.com.au. Our privacy policy says exactly what we keep, who can see it and for how long.
Things we know about
A few rare cases The Piggy can't always sort out by itself yet. Each one is easy to put right.
Asking for a job again
After you tap Ask for it again on a job, The Piggy can't always tell your child's redo apart from the first go ticked twice. If Approve all says a duplicate will be skipped, approve the redo on its own. If Approve all leaves a job waiting, check it: approve it if your child really did it again, or decline it if it's the same go ticked twice.
Changing a child's pay day
After you change a child's pay period, or move their first pay day later, an all done bonus from before the change can look like one that's already been paid. Approve all leaves it waiting, and The Piggy asks you to check it on its own, naming the pay period.
Paying into a goal your child has just changed
If you pay into a goal from a phone that's offline or hasn't synced, and your child renames or removes that goal at about the same time, the payment can miss the goal. Your child's total is always right, and the payout still shows how much went to savings, so you can correct how much the goal has saved, or go back to an earlier version (Admin, then Back up and restore, then Earlier versions).
